Position Description:

Our great client is seeking an experienced Communications Specialist that supports the client’s Communications Lead with the planning, writing and execution of various communications campaigns and projects. This individual is responsible for drafting a wide range of materials, including but not limited to: internal communications, external customer communications, talking points, frequently asked questions, presentations and Web copy.

The role includes developing creative, comprehensive communications strategies and measuring customer reactions to inform future plans. This individual helps develop and execute communications initiatives for the multiple, ongoing projects, events and other critical initiatives designed to drive engagement and garner awareness among customers and various stakeholders.

The selected candidate will be expected to:

  • Drafting internal program communications, as well as communications designed to inform and educate stakeholders external to the program.
  • Ensure consistency in core messaging, and will consult with the leadership and/or project teams as necessary.
  • Provide guidance on language and messaging and will prepare talking points, speeches, presentations, and other supporting materials as needed.
  • Work directly with Leadership to support the development and execution of all print materials.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships and communications to ensure messages are targeted, timely, and consistent, coordinating closely with Leadership, Program Executive Office (PEO), Work Stream Leads, the Offices of Public and Intergovernmental Affairs and Congressional and Legislative Affairs
  • Responsible for updating stakeholders (internal and external) on program progress.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders at meetings and task groups.
  • Support and assist in the development and execution of the Program's strategic communications strategy and plan.
  • Ensure messaging is consistent regarding program mission, goals, and objectives in support of the development of the marketing/branding strategy.
  • Develop collateral (print, electronic, etc.) on the importance of the Program and its impact.
Required Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal – ability to create communications materials for both online and offline environments.
  • Ability to multi-task, manage changing priorities and meet aggressive deadlines in a fast-paced environment, constantly striving for excellence.
  • Ability to work individually or with a team to drive communications campaigns from concept through completion including stakeholder management as appropriate.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build client relationships.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience working with executives, other marketing professionals, designers, writers, and stakeholder organizations.
Technical Skills:
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • MS Visio
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Social Media experience a plus
  •  Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Journalism, English or related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience
  • 4-7 years of strategic communications and marketing.
