Summary:
Solid understanding of troubleshooting and configuration of Windows servers and workstations, to include protocols and switching, best-practice configurations, connectivity and networking concepts. Ensures redundancy in all implementations, assisting with network configuration. Supports users with system application problems and coordinates resolution. Performs diagnostics and analysis of problems affecting system performance. Takes corrective action as necessary or interacts with other SME’s and vendors to resolve problems.  Tracks status of problem resolution and follows up to ensure satisfactory outcome. Assists in the evaluation, testing and recommendation of hardware, software, and network configurations.

Responsibilities:

  • Detailed working knowledge of various PC and server class operating systems including Windows and Linux/Redhat.  

  • Demonstrate ability to configure and administer Microsoft Windows and Linux-based servers including installing, using, and maintaining enterprise web servers.  

  • Skilled in installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and resolving issues with telephony infrastructure components including hardware, software, operating systems, peripherals and telephony applications such as call management, workforce optimization and call recordings

  • Detailed knowledge of and skilled in using, maintaining, and installing network computer hardware, software, and peripheral computer systems and equipment to solve problems and issues.  Knowledge of and experience with voice, data, and video communication software, hardware, infrastructure components, equipment, facilities and services.

  • Skilled in troubleshooting software and hardware issues on enterprise wide, mission critical systems.  Once diagnosed, apply appropriate counter measures to resolve issues as required.

  • Skilled in instructing users on new or upgraded computer application, hardware, and software systems
    Experienced in implementing and maintaining the latest desktop OS patching and supporting PIV maintenance and compliance at the desktop level

  • Ability to interact positively with end users/customers in order to provide assistance with hardware, software or application and/or to identify, diagnose, triage/troubleshoot, and resolve user desktop support issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serves as a Desktop Support Specialist providing IT support for all desktop computer related issues, including back-end infrastructure (network hardware, core equipment cabinets, auxiliary equipment cabinets, etc.).
  • Serves as an IT support person supporting numerous users and working with other IT Specialists (Network/System Administrators) to maintain network services, test and apply patches, and ensure maximum security and peak operating performance of all equipment that require PIV authentication.  Coordinates with end users and utilizing various desktop products and services to support end users.
  • Provide assistance to customers, troubleshoot problems, creates, removes, and modifies user accounts, reset passwords using Active Directory, manages connectivity using Group Policy settings, and troubleshoots and resolves sensitive issues.
  • Provides technical support to application development teams and program managers in identifying IT issues, threats, and vulnerabilities; proposing how to integrate potential countermeasures and technologies into complex operational and evolving systems; and develops and recommends solution as the situation requires.
  • Coordinates and implements network security measures to protect data, software and hardware.  Monitors network performance to determine whether adjustments are needed and where system changes are required.
  • Consults with users, management, vendors, and technicians to assess IT needs and system requirements.  Diagnoses hardware and software problems, and replaces defective components.

Education/ Certification Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 or more years related professional experience in a technical field.
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSA), including experience with security hardening.
