Position Summary 

The System Administrator responsible for designing, planning, acquisition support, configuration, installation and on-site maintenance of all servers and system administration functions.

Essential Functions
  • Provide system administration support for all network domains.
  • Administer a Service Delivery Infrastructure (SDI) that adopts technology based upon the virtual environment architectures of Virtual Machines (VM) and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). 
  • Control the conversion of traditional servers, clients, storage, and applications to maximize the efficiency and re-provisioning of network resources. 
  • Configure, provision, assign, and control resources to establish computing environments based on dynamic sessions. 
  • Configure, monitor, and provide administration for network storage.
  • Effectively administer Internet Small Computer Systems Interface (iSCSI), Network File System (NFS), and Storage Area Network (SAN) connectivity, Logical Unit Number (LUN) configuration, and virtual machine cloning (full and linked) for capability deployment. 
  • Ensure desktop computer/server integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. 
  • Incorporate fail-over methods by setting up clustered configurations and preparing virtualized resource pools to swap services swiftly upon component failure or hardening requirement.
  • Coordinate with System Administrators to remove or disable components that are unnecessary to prevent latency and draining of processing resources. 
  • Develop practical and supportable proposals that provide for comprehensive communications and processing needs to support IT requests and /or upgrades.
  • Perform requirements analysis, design, evaluation, specification, acquisition support, and testing. 
  • Review industry-sponsored capabilities and recommend “best-fit” options for agency.
  • Identify all allied support (power, environmental, construction), infrastructure (circuit actions, service points, cabling/media, converters) computing (types/quantities of equipment, power consumption, peripherals, storage), protection (encryption, firewalls, protected distribution systems), and sustainment (configurations, services, capabilities, additional/custom warranty), as well as cost estimates using pre-priced Government rates, points of contacts, and recommendations for optimal configurations.
  • Research new technologies, assess downward-directed programs, and make recommendations for future infrastructure upgrades and changes. 
  • Be knowledgeable in operating system configuration, remote desktop management consoles, client/server architecture, software applications, and network protocols. 
  • Ensure desktop networking services operate in the most effective and efficient manner.  Resolve technical problems with the desktop computing equipment and software, and document actions taken and solutions in the trouble ticket system.
  • Synchronize network services, Information Assurance (IA) and other functions (desktop) needed to ensure capability specifications, for development and administration, are included in the overall planning of products. 
  • Study vendor products to recommend those which best meet agency needs.
  • Install network hardware and software; evaluate, develop and maintain communications systems.
  • Monitor all aspects of IT availability and capability using existing tools to map out how information, events, and activities impact the computing Enterprise.
  • Apply appropriate techniques to isolate and correct service impairment issues in an expeditious manner.  Emphasis will be placed on recovering the capabilities of time-sensitive information processing systems and/or other critical/core components. 
  • As necessary, repair, replace, and /or restore the functions of supported equipment. 
  • Must be able to work closely with Network Administrators to achieve common goals.
Additional Responsibilities 
  • Must be able to monitor and troubleshoot the servers, equipment status, system alerts, and user’s service requests; provide status, document support problems, and conduct repair or replacement actions. 

  • Bachelor's Degree (four year college or technical school): Preferred
  • 10 plus years of experience administering networks, servers, and workstations; providing desktop/server support, and/or information assurance. Supported systems include, but not limited to: Cisco, HP, Dell, EMC, Lenovo, , TACLANES, Microsoft, Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Experience with Host Based Security Solution (HBSS) preferred
Computer Skills:
  • Be able to install equipment, pull cable, label and terminate various low voltage cable types
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications to include Microsoft Visio.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have an understanding of DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGS).
  • Experience with Solarwinds Administration (preferred)
Certs & Licenses:
  • Security+ Certification Required. 
  • DoD 8570 IAT II or IAT III (Any of: GSEC, Security+, SCNP, SSCP, CISA, SCNA, CISSP, or GCIH)
